The German prosecutor’s office on Tuesday called for the extradition to Spain of former Catalan independence leader Carles Puigdemont, arrested in Germany on March 25, a statement said.

Apart from Puigdemont, nine other prominent independentists, including six members of his former executive, are in preventive detention in Spain.

The prosecutor general of the state of Schleswig-Holstein, competent in this case, recognized the validity in German law of the charges of Spanish justice against Puigdemont, the one of “rebellion” and “embezzlement”, and requested his extradition, although the decision must take it in the next few days a court.

Puigdemont, arrested on March 25 in northern Germany under a euro order of Spanish justice, is incarcerated in Neum√ľnster, where he is awaiting an extradition to Spain.
