The president of the Spanish government, Mariano Rajoy, underlined on Tuesday the defense of the “rule of law” throughout the European Union after the German prosecution has requested that the extradition process of the former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont be continued.

Rajoy has referred to the decision of the German Prosecutor’s Office to request the extradition of Puigdemont for the crimes of rebellion and embezzlement of public funds, at the press conference held in Algiers on the occasion of the 7th bilateral summit.

The Spanish chief executive has specified that he does not make judgments about judicial decisions, but stressed that Europe is not only an economic space, but also “a moral and democratic space of countries respectful of human rights, the rule of law , the rule of law and the separation of powers. ”

Puigdemont, fled from Spanish justice since the end of October, has been detained in Germany since March 25, after entering German territory by that small German state, bordering Denmark.
